New Orleans

Here are some pictures from David's business trip to New Orleans last week, in no particular order.  I was very glad to be able to go with him, but it may take some convincing for me to want to go back...especially with the baby.

 The place you HAVE to go for beignets (French doughnuts) and cafe au lait (French coffee). 

 Almost anyone who has been to New Orleans will ask if you went to this place.

 I got to hear some of the oral argument while we were there.

David's judge gives all the clerks an assignment for the year - on one of their trips to New Orleans they have to do something fun/interesting and then do a presentation for everyone else.  We decided to go to the World War II museum.  It was very interesting and well done.  I must say I would have enjoyed it more if I didn't have very swollen feet by the end :)

The (other) Spencers Visit, Part 1

Last weekend we got a visit from the (other) Spencers!

Here are a few pictures from the weekend:

 

Tried to give the Spencers a taste of Texas BBQ.  But it doesn't compare with The Salt Lick...

 It's almost 100 years old - it was launched in May 1912 and saw action in World Wars I & II.

After San Jacinto, we headed down to NASA.

They have life-sized mock-ups of the International Space Station for training purposes.

Texas High School Football

Another experience David just couldn't pass up.  We invited several friends along and went to a high school football game.  It turned out it was quite the experience (along the same lines as an Aggie game, except this was high school!).

 

Turns out we picked a homecoming game to go to - and they have a bizarre tradition - you're supposed to have a date and he's supposed to give you a "mum."  As in the flower.  Except people have decided it's good business to make these mums outrageous, so you end up with monstrosities like you see here.
